Open To Options – O2O

Presenter Clara Sainte, MSW, Program Dir., Gilda’s Club Kansas City

O2O helps individuals prepare for their medical appointments where important decisions will be made about their treatment options, their plan of care. Through a one-on-one meeting with a trained counselor, they work together to develop a list of priorities, goals and questions for their physician to help guide the discussion and ensure their questions get answered and all concerns are addressed so a well –informed decision can be made.   After completing an O2O meeting, individuals report that they feel less anxious, better prepared and more confident to make important decisions about their treatment.

Preparing for Difficult Discussions:  Delivering Bad News

Presenter Judy Waechter, RN, CRRN, Clinical Education Liaison Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care

Every day healthcare providers face the difficult task of sharing bad news with patients and their loved ones.  The reality is that most have been self taught and report feeling inadequately trained for these discussions. Despite the challenge inherent in communicating bad news of any sort, our patients deserve professionals who are skilled in participating in difficult discussions.  Join us to learn skills for providers and patients and families to overcome this challenge.

Assessing Needs: The Five Critical Factors

Presenter Steve Kuker, Pres. Senior Care Consulting & Sr. Care Live!

The complexities of making decisions to support the needs of aging seniors or those with serious health conditions can be overwhelming for the family or friend caregiver.  The transition from independence to in need of assistance requires an understanding of multiple factors unique to each individual. The ability to assess needs and match with available resources does not come automatically with the title of Caregiver. Join us to learn about these Five Critical Factors.

This workshop is open to all interested parties: the healthcare professional, community and corporate organizations and family and friend caregivers.  Our intent is to improve communication and enhance understanding with the purpose of better meeting the needs of all whom we are collectively caring for.
